Fish tempura is sold by the piece, from sixty-five yen, and there is always a queue.
The bridge is a hundred metres long and you can walk round the island in an hour. At the entrance there are cats, a good dozen, with signs asking you not to feed them. Then there is the fishing harbour, and on the harbour the tempura stalls: you buy by the piece and eat as you walk. The speciality is the purple potato one. The beach to the north is sandy and quiet; the one to the south, at low tide, uncovers the rocks and the pools.
An islet about 1.7 kilometres in circumference, in the municipality of Nanjō, linked to the mainland by a bridge a hundred metres long. It lives off fishing, and its tempura stalls are the reason people from the main island go there.
ℹ️ You drive across the bridge and park for free. ⚠️ At the best-known stalls the queue is constant. There is also a glass-bottom boat.
