The Nakatsu-miya is a minute by bike from the port, 25 minutes by boat from Kaminominato.

The boat from Kaminominato reaches Ōshima, the largest island in Fukuoka Prefecture, in about 25 minutes; the Nakatsu-miya shrine is less than a minute by bicycle from the port. On the Iwase coast stands a 遙拝所 (haihaijo), a place for worship from afar, from which, since 2018, anyone can pray towards the sacred island of Okinoshima, where landing remains restricted.

The Nakatsu-miya is one of the shrines of Munakata Taisha, on the island of Ōshima, the largest in Fukuoka Prefecture. On the Iwase coast, on the same site, there is also the 遙拝所 (haihaijo) of the Okitsu-miya: a place for praying from afar towards the shrine on the island of Okinoshima, where landing is restricted. Munakata Taisha and Okinoshima together have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017.

ℹ️ The boat to Ōshima leaves from Kaminominato and takes about 25 minutes. The Nakatsu-miya is less than a minute by bicycle from the port. About 3 hours and 10 minutes are recommended for visiting the island; check the ferry timetables before your trip.
