Bombed on 17 March 1945, it was left with only its walls: a cultural property since 2003.

The building dates from 1902, when it went up as the seat of the prefectural government, and was described as the largest and most elegant French Renaissance-style building in Japan. The bombing of 17 March 1945 gutted it, leaving only the outer walls standing; rebuilt after the war, it became an official guest house and a museum of administrative history in 1985. Since 2003 it has been a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

Former seat of the Hyōgo prefectural government, built in 1902 in French Renaissance style and now an official guest house, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Above JR Motomachi, on the mountain side.

ℹ️ The garden and the museum of administrative history (県政資料館) can be visited on weekdays from the north entrance; the guest house section is not always open.
