One of the ministry buildings of Kasumigaseki, completed on 15 December 2000 to a design by Kume Sekkei. Inside are the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications with the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, the National Public Safety Commission, the National Police Agency (警察庁) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism with the Japan Tourism Agency. On the ground floor there are a post office, a konbini and a café.

ℹ️ You can only look at it from outside: to go in you need an appointment registered in advance, a temporary pass and photo ID, and the building is open from 8:00 to 19:00. The police visitor room that you can book, the 警察参考室, is not here: it belongs to the Metropolitan Police Department, which is a different body and is in another building, at Sakuradamon, one hundred and sixty-five metres away.

🚉 Sakuradamon · 7 min walk

Death Note

In the sixth episode this is where the investigation headquarters for the Kira case, the one led by Sōichirō Yagami, is set up. The building really does house the National Police Agency, from the seventeenth to the twentieth floor. In the next episode, Light and Naomi Misora come out of here and walk down to Hibiya Park: five minutes on foot.
