It opens at 9:00 and closes at 17:00, but last entry is at 16:00.
You get off the bus in front of the gate, on a hillside outside the centre, and the first thing you see is the vertical flower bed: thousands of pots mounted on tiers to form a design, which is redone during the year. Then greenhouses and collections that change with the season. If you arrive after four you are left outside, even though the park closes at five.
The municipal botanical park of Uji, on a hillside in the Hirono neighbourhood. It has greenhouses and seasonal collections and, as a feature of its own, a vertical flower bed, the ‘tapestry of flowers and water’, built on tiers and redesigned several times a year.
ℹ️ ⚠️ The price figures conflict: the park's page says ¥600 for adults, the area portal and the municipality ¥300. The official figure applies, but it should be checked again before it is published: the notes at the bottom point out that at least two of the conflicts in this batch come from recent price rises. Last entry is at 16:00 although it closes at 17:00. Closed on Mondays, and the following day if the Monday is a public holiday, plus 28 December–4 January. It can only be reached by bus, from the three stations of Uji and Ōkubo, bus stop 植物公園. No animals, no picking plants, no ball games and no smoking outside the designated areas; take your rubbish home. Car park ¥400.
