After the Meiji Restoration the Imperial Guard set up its barracks here; the park you visit today only opened in 1969. Inside, besides the two castle gates, grows a rare moss (Hikari-goke, which reflects light like tiny mirrors), protected as a natural monument.

The last stop on Kirito's tour of Tokyo in search of the ‘ghost’, in ‘Ordinal Scale’: the sequence opens on the roof of the Budōkan, the encounter takes place at the vending machine in the rest area a little way into the footpath coming from the Budōkan car park, and the girl vanishes on one of the bridges over the pond. The Jōtōmyōdai stone lantern is also shown: it stands a little further east.
