Selected as one of Shinshu's ‘100 sunsets’, the viewpoint has been open since 18 September 1956.
The park was established on 18 September 1956 and extended in the ’60s, with a complete renovation between 1999 and 2000: sixty years of its own history before an anime, in 2016, made its view famous. It has been selected as one of Shinshu's ‘100 sunset spots’ and one of Japan's ‘100 night views’, and is officially recognised as one of Shinshu's ‘hills with a view of the home landscape’: three recognitions independent of the series. The viewing terrace, lit up in the evening, looks out over Lake Suwa and the Northern Alps; in the nearby woods lives the oomurasaki, Japan's national butterfly.

ℹ️ Always open; the main attraction is the night view over the city.

The viewpoint from which you see the lake spread out in the basin: it is the view that gave rise to Lake Itomori. Makoto Shinkai, who is from Nagano, has stated that the model for the lake is Suwa, and that the first images came from Lakes Matsubara and Ōtsuki, also in Nagano.
