A building shaped like a sailing ship, 63 m tall and standing since 1984: the observation deck is at 53 m and costs 300 yen.
From the quay you see a white building that imitates the swelling sails of a sailing ship. You go up to the top floor, fifty-three metres, and below you lies the whole port of Nagoya at work: cranes, barges, the bridge. On the lower floors the maritime museum lets you try a ship-handling simulator, and anyone who tries it finds out how slowly a ship responds.
The Port Building has been open since July 1984 as a symbol of the port of Nagoya: 63 metres tall, with its roof designed to imitate a white sailing ship. On the seventh floor, 53 metres above the ground, is the observation room, which looks south over the port and north to the skyscrapers of Nagoya Station; on clear days you can see the Suzuka Mountains and Mount Ontake. The third and fourth floors house the Nagoya Maritime Museum, devoted to the port, ships and the sea. The same quay is home to the aquarium and the Antarctic icebreaker Fuji.
ℹ️ Open 9:30–17:00, entry until half an hour before. Closed on Mondays (on Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday), but during the spring, summer and winter school holidays it stays open. Observation deck 300 yen and museum 300 yen for adults and high school students, 200 for elementary and junior high school: they are two tickets, not one. ⚠️ If you also want the ship Fuji, take the 710 yen combined ticket; if you add the aquarium as well, you pay 2,440: this has to be decided before you buy the first ticket, not after. In summer the observation deck also opens in the evening, and from there you can look at the factories lit up.
