The Toki no Kane tower, 16 m high, is the fourth: rebuilt in 1894 after the fire.
You walk among the black façades of the kura, the fireproof storehouses that the merchants built after the great fire of 1893, which razed much of the old town to the ground. In the middle of the street rises the Toki no Kane bell tower, 16 metres high: it is the fourth reconstruction since the original of 1627–1634, and it still rings four times a day, at 6:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00. In 1996 its chime was included in the Ministry of the Environment's ‘100 Soundscapes of Japan to be preserved’.
‘Little Edo’. Public street.
ℹ️ Very crowded at weekends.

The street of kurazukuri-style storehouses, with the Toki no Kane bell tower, is the townscape that guides recognise behind the series' town, and it is the stop most visited by readers, together with Hannō. Kawagoe is also where Momo's everyday life takes place.
