There is a copy of Rikyū's Taian that you can step inside, not one you look at from outside.
The museum stands opposite the plot where Sen no Rikyū's house stood, and has reconstructed his Taian (the only tea room made by his hand left in the world, which is a National Treasure and is in Kyoto) as it was when newly built: here you can go inside. Next to it is the room for real tea, where you are served matcha and sweets sitting down, or you can learn to prepare it with the three Senke schools.
Sakai's municipal museum on two figures born here: Sen no Rikyū, who gave tea the form it still has, and Yosano Akiko, the poet who opened up modern Japanese lyric poetry.
ℹ️ The exhibition galleries are open 9:00–18:00, last entry at 17:30; the tea experiences 10:00–17:00. Closed on the third Tuesday of the month (the following day if it is a public holiday) and at the end of the year. The two galleries cost 300 yen for adults and 200 for high school students, free up to junior high; with the Taian the ticket goes up to 1,300 and 1,100. One minute from Shukuin tram stop on the Hankai tram.
