Three Michelin stars for 16 km of gorge, among Japan's hundred autumn foliage spots.
The gorge runs for about 16 km along the Taita River system, between the municipalities of Akiōta and Kitahiroshima: a national Special Place of Scenic Beauty, listed among Japan's Hundred Landscapes, Hundred Forests for Forest Bathing and Hundred Autumn Foliage Spots. It pairs with the more distant Taishaku-kyō as the region's best-known gorge scenery, and is one of the representative views of Western Chūgoku Mountains Quasi-National Park; in the 2014 edition of the Guide Bleu Michelin Japon it was awarded three stars.
