A shrine since 825, raised to the first imperial rank in 1030: the third shrine of Kōzuke.
The shrine stands at the top of Ikaho's stone staircase and, according to tradition, was founded in 825. It appears in the court records as early as 839, and in 1030 it reached the first imperial rank (正一位): it is the third of the principal shrines of the old province of Kōzuke (上野国三宮). It is dedicated to Ōnamuchi and Sukunahikona, the latter associated with hot springs and medicine, in keeping with the town it protects.
The original is a plain building beside the spring.

The shrine at the top of the 365 steps closes the route of the staircase that appears in episode 12, the one set in Jiji's hot spring town. In the anime the building is clearly reworked compared with the original.
