Distinct from the better-known Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine (about 2.5 km away), the Senba Hikawa is one of the ‘three shrines of Senba’ (仙波三社) venerated by the local community since the year 1069, when tradition attributes its founding to the Senba warrior clan. Its grounds hold the storehouse of the processional float of the Senba Jirō Yasuke family, one of the floats that parade in the Kawagoe Matsuri, UNESCO intangible heritage.
