The city keeps a live camera on it to show how crowded it is.
Four hundred metres of public road between two walls of bamboo as tall as buildings, from Nonomiya Shrine to the gate of Ōkōchi Sansō Garden, passing the north entrance of Tenryū-ji. There is nothing to visit and there is no charge: you walk, and the light filtering through the canes is the reason everyone comes. Anyone who arrives at eleven walks in single file.
A public road of about four hundred metres that runs through the Sagano bamboo grove, from Nonomiya Shrine to Ōkōchi Sansō Garden, by way of the north gate of Tenryū-ji.
ℹ️ There is no charge, no opening hours and no ticket office: it is an open road. ⚠️ It is crowded from mid-morning to late afternoon, so much so that the city publishes a live camera and a crowd forecast up to two months ahead; they are worth checking before you set off. Anyone who goes early walks through it almost alone. From Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku tramway it is ten minutes' walk, from JR Saga-Arashiyama thirteen, from Hankyu Arashiyama twenty-one.
