The spring water is so clear that the pond is nicknamed ‘Monet's Pond’.
Beside the steps of Nedo Shrine, a nameless pond is fed by a spring whose clarity shows every coloured carp as if suspended in the air; water lilies bloom there from late May to August, and the whole scene has earned the online nickname ‘Monet's Pond’ for its resemblance to his Water Lilies. It only became known on social media in the 2010s, after being a village shrine's pond for centuries.
Spring-fed pond in the small village of Itadori, in the grounds of the Nedo Shinto shrine, which became a social media phenomenon because of the clarity of its water.
