The ‘Tanayu’ terraced bath, five pools stepping down over Beppu Bay.
Hot-spring hotel complex on a hill overlooking Beppu Bay, with three buildings (Sora Kan, Hoshi Kan, Niji Kan) around a shared entertainment centre. The Tanayu (棚湯) panoramic bath is laid out on five levels of terraced pools, like rice paddies, from which on clear days you can see as far as the Sada Peninsula, in Shikoku, across the Inland Sea. Next to it, the Aqua Garden is a hot-spring area to be enjoyed in swimwear. The official site announces a new evening show with fountains and projections, but with no title or times stated with certainty: a detail to check on site.
One of the largest ryokan-hotels in Beppu, also open to day visitors for access to the baths. It is among the top places in the TripAdvisor ranking for Oita, because of the Tanayu bath.
ℹ️ Tanayu open 9:00–22:00 (building closes 23:00); Aqua Garden 11:00–21:00 (building closes 22:00). Day admission: weekdays (Mon–Thu) adults from ¥1,900, children from ¥1,400; Friday adults from ¥2,100, children from ¥1,500; Sat, Sun and public holidays adults from ¥2,300, children from ¥1,600 – prices vary by season, to be reconfirmed.
