The path is the river: you walk in the water for thirty to forty minutes.
There is no path alongside: you step into the stream and walk up it, wet up to the knees, for thirty to forty minutes. At the car park they hire out what you need (felt-soled shoes for six hundred yen, life jacket, helmet, the safety set for one thousand two hundred) and before you set off they show you a video. ⚠️ ‘Up to the knees’ describes the walk, not the river: the operator writes that in the deep spots the water is more than three metres deep.
A waterfall in the basin of the Hēnan River, in the hamlet of Tsuha in Ōgimi, within the Yanbaru area. It is managed by the municipal tourism board, which runs a centre at the car park.
ℹ️ Free admission; you pay for parking, five hundred yen for up to two hours and fifty yen for every extra half hour. Open 8:00–17:30 all year round, last entry at 16:00; the desk takes calls until 16:00, on 0980-40-9017. Shower and locker one hundred yen. ⚠️ The operator warns that floods come without warning because the surrounding mountains are small, that they close the car park without notice when the meteorological agency issues a warning, and that accidents in the water are the responsibility of those involved; their page points out that there have been deaths. Beyond the Marugumui point you climb a six-metre rock face with ropes.
