Eighteen hundred metres between bamboo fences woven by hand in eight designs.

The road climbs through the bamboo groves, and along both sides run hand-woven fences, eight different designs, each with its own name: one imitates the round shape of a burial mound, another the overlapping collar of Princess Kaguya's robe, from the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. They are not old: the city has been building them since 2000, and bamboo shoots are grown here.

A road of about 1,800 metres that cuts through the bamboo groves on the Mukō hill, lined with eight types of woven bamboo fence: takeho-gaki, kofun-gaki, terado-gaki, mozume-gaki, kaguya-gaki, raigōji-gaki, fukada-gaki and kaidō-gaki. Work began in fiscal year 2000. The route has received the ministerial award 手づくり郷土賞 and is on the list of the ‘five hundred beautiful roads of Japan that make you want to walk’. Every year in October the lantern illumination 竹の径・かぐやの夕べ is held.

ℹ️ There is no charge, there are no opening hours, and it is a public road. ⚠️ There is nothing on site: no ticket office, no café, no toilets. The nearest station, Hankyū Rakusai-guchi, is a quarter of an hour's walk away; the 向日回生病院前 bus stop is practically in front. By car, parking is at the paid car park of Rakusai Bamboo Park, next door.
