Three hundred and thirty hectares (seventy times the Tokyo Dome) with over twenty craft houses.

Across three hundred and thirty hectares of countryside (the equivalent of seventy Tokyo Domes), more than twenty ‘houses’ scattered among the fields hold workshops for ceramics, washi paper, woodworking, handmade soba and other traditional crafts, each run in its own way. Nearby, fifteen farms open to the public add fruit and vegetable picking to the list of things to do in an afternoon.

A village theme park in the town of Minakami, designed to bring the area's rural crafts to life, with the Hōrakukan information point at its centre.

ℹ️ You get round the village on foot or by bicycle (hire available, e-bikes included, from 1,000¥); each workshop has its own hours, generally during the day. No overall closing time is given for the village.
