Shingon temple in the shugendō tradition, known to everyone as ‘the O-Fudō-san of Tanukidani’, at Ichijōji Matsubara-chō in the Sakyō district: you go there for protection against misfortune and against cancer, and for road safety. In the grounds stands the ‘Miyamoto Musashi ascetic-training waterfall’, where legend has it that the swordsman went into retreat when the mountain was still inaccessible, standing under the water until he attained fudōshin, the spirit that cannot be shaken.

It is not a setting: the temple was one of the six places of worship (three in Tokyo, three in Kyoto) in the official collaboration ‘わたしの幸せな良縁結び’, from 16 November to 15 December 2023, with omamori, goshuinchō and goshuin dedicated to Miyo and Kiyoka. The initiative has ended, and the omamori and goshuin were never sold online.
