Head temple of the Kenpon Hokke school, of the Nichiren branch, founded in Kyoto in 1389 by Nichijū Shōnin. The Ōnin War and other fires forced it to move several times within the city, until in 1583, in Hideyoshi's time, it settled at Teramachi Nijō. In 1968, to get away from the din of the city centre, the ‘great Shōwa relocation’ took it to Iwakura, in the Sakyō district, where it stands today.

It is not a setting: the temple was one of the six places of worship (three in Tokyo, three in Kyoto) in the official collaboration ‘わたしの幸せな良縁結び’, from 16 November to 15 December 2023, with omamori, goshuinchō and goshuin dedicated to Miyo and Kiyoka. The initiative has ended, and the omamori and goshuin were never sold online.
