Check the municipality's webcam first: without fog, at dawn, there is nothing.

You set off before daybreak and check the tourist association's webcam, which is pointed up there: if the tanba-giri (the bank of fog that fills the basin from autumn to spring) is there, from the terrace you see only the ridges rising out of the white. If it is not, from Mount Ryūgao you see an ordinary valley.

A viewing terrace near the summit of Mount Ryūgao, above the Kameoka basin, built for watching the tanba-giri, the fog that fills the valley floor from autumn to spring and that the municipality states is visible above all at dawn. Because the fog is either there or not, the tourist association keeps a webcam pointed at the terrace, and a second one at Senju-ji on Mount Tokkonage, about 4.5 kilometres away.

ℹ️ ⚠️ Two limits, and both must be stated. First: you can only get there by car, from the side road at the Kameoka interchange, passing the country club gate and carrying on for about a hundred metres; the municipality states that the mountain roads have poor visibility and that stopping on the verge is dangerous. Second: the visit only makes sense early in the morning, from late autumn to early spring, and only if the fog is there, which is why you check the webcam before going up. For the rest of the year and the rest of the day there is nothing to see.
