Discovered in 1605, it is the oldest of the springs developed along the Haya River.
Developed in the early seventeenth century along the narrow gorge of the Haya River, in less than a hundred years it came to have twelve or thirteen springs of its own. Its simple alkaline water, known as ‘beautiful-skin water’, was already attracting writers such as Natsume Sōseki in the Meiji era. The Ichinoyu ryokan, founded in 1630, is still in business today on the same stream.
The oldest of the springs developed in the early Edo period along the valley of the Haya River, between Hakone-Yumoto and Miyanoshita.
ℹ️ The area is always accessible; the historic ryokan offer day bathing with their own hours.
