The Howard clock number 738, installed in 1881, is the oldest tower clock in Japan.
It is a white, two-storey wooden building, and you reach it among skyscrapers: to photograph it whole you have to cross the street and climb onto the platform that the city put there for that purpose. Inside, the Howard mechanism number 738 has been striking the hours since it was installed in 1881, thirteen years before Japan adopted a time zone. Outside, the people of Sapporo privately call it one of the three most disappointing places in the country.
Wooden building from 1878, a symbol of Sapporo. Together with 狸小路 and the Teine planetarium, it is one of the three places of the series outside Haboro, all of which can be visited on the same day in Sapporo.
