The museum opened in April 1989, presented as a project for Toyota Motor's fiftieth anniversary. The collection numbers about 600 cars of every origin, almost all kept in running order and rotated on display: about 150 are shown at a time, across the car hall and the automobile culture hall, tracing a century of the history of the petrol car.
It is not a museum of Toyota models alone: alongside the Japanese cars stand European and American makes from the nineteenth century onwards, in a comparative account of the automobile around the world.
ℹ️ 9:30–17:00 (last entry 16:30), closed on Mondays (or the next day if it is a public holiday) and at the end and start of the year.
