Free 24 hours a day, in water of pH 7.8: one of the three in Japan that leave the skin smoothest.
In Yuyū Square, in the centre of the spa district, the footbath stays running and free all day; only the lighting goes off at 3 in the morning. The water, sodium bicarbonate-chloride and at pH 7.8, leaves the skin slippery to the touch, which is why it is counted among Japan's ‘three great beauty waters’; the name recalls the doctor Philipp Franz von Siebold, who stopped here in the nineteenth century.
A free public footbath, opened in 2000 in Yuyū Square in Ureshino, dedicated to the doctor Siebold, who stayed here during the Edo period. The hot springs of Ureshino are already mentioned in the Hizen Fudoki as waters that ‘cure every ill’.
ℹ️ Open 24 hours a day, free; the facility's lighting goes off at 3:00. No car park of its own: you use the one at the Siebold no Yu public bath (first 90 minutes free, then 100 yen per 30 minutes). Towels on sale in nearby shops. A local speciality to try a short walk away: hot-spring tofu (温泉湯どうふ).
