45 m above the sea, glass floor: below, whirlpools that reach 20 m at the big spring tides.
The walkway runs for 450 metres inside the structural cavity of the Onaruto Bridge, suspended 45 metres above the sea: glass panels in the floor let you see the water beneath your feet. At the end, the observation room overlooking the strait shows the whirlpools that form when the tide, out of phase between the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel, rushes furiously through twice a day: at the spring and autumn peaks they reach 20 metres in diameter and more than 20 metres in depth.
Pedestrian walkway built into the service space under the roadway of the Onaruto Bridge (Honshu-Shikoku Bridge), which links Naruto, in Tokushima, to Awaji Island. It is run by Tokushima Prefecture as an observation facility for the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait.
