2.4 km of metasequoias planted in 1981 for a farm field, not to be photographed.
The roughly five hundred metasequoias were planted in 1981 by the Makino fruit growers' association as a frame for an educational field for children: nobody planted them with a tourist attraction in mind. The avenue runs for 2.4 kilometres between the Hiruguchi neighbourhood and Makino Highland, and in 1994 it entered the Yomiuri newspaper's list of Japan's one hundred tree-lined roads. It changes colour with the seasons (green in summer, copper in autumn, snow-covered in winter) and since 2008 it has been declared a ‘sacred place for lovers’ by the municipality.
Tree-lined avenue, 2.4 km long, along the prefectural road linking Hiruguchi to Makino Highland, in Takashima.
ℹ️ Free, open access all year round. The municipality explicitly warns of the danger of stopping or parking at the roadside to take photos: there are dedicated car parks nearby.
