It is the only museum in Japan devoted solely to the Yayoi period, and it stands on the excavation site.
The museum stands next to the Ikegami-Sone moated settlement, one of the largest Yayoi excavations in the country, and it does not tell the story of an era in general: it tells that one. In the park to the north the site's large building has been rebuilt as a standing structure, so outside you see what you have just looked at inside.
Osaka Prefecture museum in Izumi, the only one in Japan specialising in Yayoi culture, that is, the centuries between the arrival of rice farming and the first kofun, the great burial mounds of the rulers.
ℹ️ Open 9:30–17:00, last entry at 16:30. Closed on Mondays; if Monday is a public holiday it stays open and closes the following day. Six hundred metres east of Shin-Tayama Station on the Hanwa Line, or fifteen hundred west of Matsunohama on the Nankai. Free car park. ⚠️ The ticket price is NOT given: the prefecture's page does not state it.
