From 7:30 to noon: one of the four great morning markets of Japan.
Along the street that runs beside the harbour, fishermen and vegetable growers sell fresh fish, dried goods, vegetables, pickles and ceramics straight from the stalls every morning, exchanging a few words with passers-by as they have done for a century. It began as an informal market in the Taishō period, and is now grouped, together with those of Wajima, Katsuura and Miyagawa (Takayama), among the four great morning markets of Japan.
Morning market on Yobuko harbour, with a formal association since 1999 but active as a place of trade since the Taishō period (1912–1926). Counted among the four great morning markets of Japan (日本四大朝市), together with Wajima (Ishikawa), Katsuura (Chiba) and Miyagawa in Takayama (Gifu).
ℹ️ Open every day except 1 January, 7:30–12:00 (individual stalls' hours may vary). Free market car park, 29 spaces; paid car park nearby, 128 spaces (100 yen/hour).
