Wooden izakaya look out between the torii that lead to Sakurayama Shrine.

On the approach to Sakurayama Shrine, within the castle precinct, a double row of two-storey wooden houses in Shōwa style is home to izakaya and bars: the illuminated signs literally stand between one torii and the next. It is about 20 minutes' walk from the east exit of Morioka Station.

Alley of taverns and bars along the sandō (approach) of Sakurayama Shrine, in the Uchimaru district.

ℹ️ Public alley, always accessible; the individual venues mostly open in the evening. ⚠️ Less than 150 m from Sakurayama Shrine (a separate entry in this same file): they are the same sandō, but one is visited by day for the sacred stone and the other is enjoyed in the evening for its venues – two different experiences, two entries.
