Gate, Buddha hall and Dharma hall: three National Treasures together since 1997.
The third lord, Maeda Toshitsune, had it built as a place of funerary worship for his elder brother Toshinaga, who had founded Takaoka and died there: the work lasted twenty years, from the beginning of the Shōhō era until 1663. On 3 December 1997 the gate, the Buddha hall and the Dharma hall became National Treasures as a single group of early seventeenth-century Zen architecture; five other structures in the complex are Important Cultural Properties.
Temple of the Sōtō school of Zen in Takaoka, built as a place of funerary worship (菩提寺) for Maeda Toshinaga, the founder of the city. It is the most important Buddhist temple in Toyama Prefecture.
