Its Ferris wheel, SKYMAX60, is the only one in the whole of Okinawa Prefecture.
On the land returned in 1981 from an American air base, a neighbourhood has grown up that plays openly on the American look: neon signs, a cinema, import shops, colourful murals. Its symbol is SKYMAX60, the Ferris wheel 60 metres high and the only one in the whole prefecture: a full turn takes about 15 minutes, and from up there you can see the bay of Chatan and, on clear days, the coast as far as Naha. Among the gondolas, just one is yellow against all the others in red, a little game for those who ride.
The complex includes shopping centres, restaurants, a multiplex cinema and, next to it, the public beach of Chatan (北谷公園サンセットビーチ), open for swimming from April to November.
ℹ️ The area is open and free at all times; the shops keep their own hours. SKYMAX60 runs 11:00–22:00 all year round: adults 600 yen, children aged 4–18, 300 yen, free under 3.
