The lighthouse was first lit in 1929: in front of it stretches the lovers' beach, one kilometre long.
The lighthouse marks the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula, where the Pacific, Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay meet; it was first lit in 1929 and electrified in 1960, and it is on the list of the fifty most beautiful lighthouses in Japan. At its foot Koijigahama, the ‘beach of the road of love’, runs for about a kilometre: white sand between the lighthouse and the Hiide Stone Gate.
The cape is a place of literary pilgrimage for Shimazaki Tōson's poem about coconuts washed up on the shore (『椰子の実』), and it remains a vantage point over the route of the ships entering Ise Bay.
ℹ️ Free, open access; the outside of the lighthouse can be seen but it cannot be climbed. From the Koijigahama car park or from the Michi-no-eki Crystal Port, about 15 minutes on foot, gently uphill. No toilets at the lighthouse.
