The tip of the longest and narrowest peninsula in Japan: the lighthouse has been flashing since 1918.
The cape is the tip of the Sada Peninsula, about 40 km long along the Median Tectonic Line and described as the longest and narrowest in Japan, between the Seto Inland Sea to the north and the Uwa Sea to the south. The reinforced concrete lighthouse, 18 metres tall, was first lit on 1 April 1918 and enlarged in 1941; it has been a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (登録有形文化財) since 2017. From the car park you reach the lighthouse on a walk of about 1.8 km through the woods, and on clear days you can see Kyūshū across the Bungo Strait.
The western tip of Shikoku, in the municipality of Ikata, Ehime Prefecture.
ℹ️ The path from the car park to the lighthouse is about 1.8 km (20 minutes). Whether the inside of the lighthouse can be visited regularly has not been checked: some secondary sources mention special openings limited to one day a year, to be confirmed with an official source.
