The name comes from the Persian ‘peri’ (fairy): 140 shops in nine zones of an imaginary port.
The name is a coinage from ‘Experience’ and peri, the benevolent fairy of Persian mythology: the idea is an imaginary coastal town that has grown over time through trade with merchants from all over the world. On four floors, nine different themed zones (from the open-air courtyard to the merchants' gallery) house about 140 shops and restaurants, as well as a 16-screen multiplex cinema. It is run by a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Land, the same company that runs Tokyo Disney Resort, to which it is connected on foot.
Ikspiari opened in the early years of the new millennium next to Maihama Station, as a commercial complex independent of the two Disney parks but part of the same tourist economy of the area: the first major venture by Oriental Land outside the theme parks.
ℹ️ Opening hours differ for shops and restaurants (the restaurants stay open later). Pedestrian access from the south exit of JR Maihama Station; by car from the Wangan Line, Urayasu or Kasai exits. The official site warns that the roads around the resort and the Ikspiari car park can be very congested, and recommends the train.
