The five diagonal crossings have been there since 1973, when the Parco department store opened.

Ten lanes meet in front of the station, and five pedestrian crossings overlap diagonally on the same green light. The scramble crossing dates from 1973, when the opening of the Parco department store multiplied foot traffic between the two sides. Every two minutes the lights stop the cars in every direction, and the square fills up and then empties again in a few seconds.

Shibuya's scramble crossing: five diagonal crossings under the giant screens. The crowds and the signs make it the reference background for any series set in Tokyo.

ℹ️ You get the view from above from the walkway of Shibuya Scramble Square or through the windows of the Starbucks in QFRONT.

Jujutsu Kaisen

It appears several times in the Shibuya Incident arc: photo location surveys identify it in episodes 31, 41 and 42. In episode 39 it is the background Megumi lands on after being hurled away by Toji, and the Glico giant screen inside the crossing is also drawn in the shot: you find it again by walking across the stripes under the Keiō Inokashira Line bridge.

Tokyo Revengers

It is the place of the commemorative photo with which the Tokyo Manji-kai celebrates its founding, in chapter 42 of volume five: the founding members pose in the middle of the crossing, in tokkōfuku. It belongs to the same founding moment in which they buy the omamori at Numabukuro Hikawa Shrine, also on the map.

It does not appear in the film but in the music video for ‘ray’, the theme song: the shot is of the crossing on the Starbucks side, with Yachiyo smiling. The same video also includes the Kōshin-dō in Shimokitazawa and the torii of Kusushi Shrine on the summit of Fuji, both on the map.
