Gyōza in a circle since 1953: in 2025 Hamamatsu was the 1st city in Japan for spending on gyōza.
The gyōza arrive arranged in a circle on the plate, the Hamamatsu style, and recent reviews speak of a juicy, light filling. The restaurant has been open in Hiraguchi since 1953 and has a branch inside JR Hamamatsu Station.
Ishimatsu Gyōza opened in 1953 in Hiraguchi, in what was then the municipality of Hamakita, now Hamana-ku. It serves gyōza (meat and vegetable dumplings cooked on a hotplate) in the city's typical style: arranged in a circle on the plate instead of in a row. In 2025 Hamamatsu ranked first in Japan for household spending on gyōza, for the third year running, according to the municipality's tourism page.
ℹ️ Weekdays 11:00–14:30 and 17:00–20:30; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 11:00–21:30. No ticket: it is a restaurant. No source states how to get to the original restaurant (a residential area of Hamana-ku, probably by car only). You can also eat the same gyōza at the branch inside JR Hamamatsu Station, which is more convenient for anyone without a car.
