A villa by Norman Foster's studio, closed on Sundays and public holidays.
It was a private house, designed by Norman Foster's studio, and the municipality turned it into a museum in 2017 without altering its character: you look at the building as much as at what it holds, and from the garden you can see the Ōgigayatsu valley. Inside are the finds from the urban excavations, that is, the Kamakura that lies beneath the one you walk on.
Opened in 2017 in a converted private residence, it holds the city's archaeological and historical material from prehistory to the present day, much of it from excavations carried out during building work in the centre.
ℹ️ Open 10:00–16:00, last entry at 15:30. Tickets 400 yen, 150 for students, free for residents and for people with disabilities. ⚠️ Closed on Sundays and public holidays, which are exactly the days when the city is full: it is the museum that people coming at the weekend miss. No car park.
