Almost 1,000 fish species along 4 km of coast: among the best diving sites in Japan.
An islet at the tip of the Ōtsuki peninsula, linked to the mainland by two bridges (1967 and 1993) and now home to about 400 people. Its waters, where a warm and a cold current meet, host almost a thousand fish species among table corals and tropical shoals: divers and snorkellers come from all over Japan. The stone breakwater dug over 26 years (1648–1673) for the Tosa domain still stands on the coast.
An island of 0.57 km² with 3.9 km of coastline, the southernmost point of the prefecture that can be reached by car. Its fame comes from its marine biodiversity, not from monuments: a place you visit to be in the water, not to look at it from the shore.
ℹ️ Diving and snorkelling with local operators (equipment or a course required); the beaches are small and rocky, with little room to lie down. A car is recommended: the road goes all the way to the island.
