Founded in 1245: more than 200 stone steps up to the shrine, through the woods.
Founded in 1245 according to local tradition, the shrine venerates the three deities of Kumano together with the three generations of the gods of Hyūga. You reach it by climbing more than 200 stone steps, in the shade of a large ginkgo listed among the prefecture's monumental trees; further uphill, in the woods, an upper shrine marks the spot of the waterfall that gives the place its name (鳴滝, ‘rumbling waterfall’).
A small country shrine in the hamlet of Kawachi, north of the centre of Takachiho.
ℹ️ Open grounds, but isolated and reachable only by car: it is about ten kilometres from the town, much further than the other places in the arc.
