The shrine was founded in 757, and the Yamakasa floats stay on display in its courtyard all year round.
In the courtyard of the shrine, founded in 757, you find some 飾り山 (kazariyama, decorated floats several metres high) on display all year round, not only during the July festival, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. Kushida Jinja is Hakata's main shrine, and it hosts the climax of the festival, the 追い山 (oiyama) race, at dawn on 15 July.
Kushida Jinja, founded in 757, is the main shrine of the Hakata district, the historic merchant heart of Fukuoka. Every July the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, the festival that gave its name to the series of neighbourhood teams who carry their floats at a run through the city's streets, is organised from here.
ℹ️ Admission to the shrine is free.
