200,000 azaleas beneath a 210-metre cliff: three years of work, completed in 1845.
A garden of about 50 hectares commissioned by the twenty-eighth lord of Takeo, Nabeshima Shigeyoshi, and completed around 1845 as his villa. The Azalea Valley has 200,000 plants, as well as 2,000 cherry trees and a 300-year-old camphor tree; a wisteria and a maple are 170 years old. The garden opens out at the foot of the sheer cliff of Mount Mifune, 210 metres high, which is its permanent backdrop.
Registered as a national property of scenic interest in 2010. Venue for evening light exhibitions with works by teamLab in autumn and other seasons, as well as the Rakuen Hotel on the same estate.
ℹ️ Paid admission; opening hours and ticket vary with seasonal events (flowering, illuminations).
