The red torii stands on a rock seven hundred metres from the shore.
What you come to see is not in the grounds: it is out at sea. The vermilion torii of Najima stands on a rock seven hundred metres from the shore, and behind it, when the air is clear, are Enoshima and Mount Fuji sloping away. In the grounds there is the pine that Minamoto no Yoritomo praised, and a lighthouse dedicated to the actor Ishihara Yūjirō.
The main shrine of Hayama, founded in 1150 when Minamoto no Yoritomo had a deity from Mishima Taisha transferred here. It stands on the headland that closes off Morito Beach to the south.
ℹ️ Open grounds: the shrine publishes neither opening hours nor an admission price. The shrine office is open from 9:00 to 17:00, every day of the year. There is a car park, with only a few spaces. ⚠️ You look at the torii on the rock from the shore; you cannot reach it.
