25,000 volumes on nuclear issues in an underground library, 500 m from the hypocentre.
The museum, opened in 1996 to a design by the Kumesekkei firm, extends over two underground floors and two above ground, a short distance from the hypocentre; the attached library holds about 25,000 volumes on nuclear energy and peace.
It stands where the Nagasaki International Cultural Centre stood until 1995, which was demolished to build the current building on the site of the atomic bombing of 9 August 1945: it displays objects, photographs and testimonies of the victims.
