‘Kanazawa's kitchen’ for 300 years, with about 170 shops in narrow alleys.

The network of covered alleys is now home to about 170 businesses (fish stalls with snow crab and sweet shrimp, butchers, greengrocers, souvenir shops and florists) under the sign ‘Omichō’, the nickname residents have used for generations instead of the official name.

Active for about 300 years as a fish and vegetable market, since the period when the Kaga domain governed Kanazawa, as a retail market for the city. It has come through rebuilding after fires and the 1891 earthquake while staying in the same neighbourhood, Musashigatsuji.

ℹ️ Food shops generally 9:00–17:00, eateries 11:00–17:00, with some exceptions open into the evening; many shops close on Wednesdays, others on Sundays or Tuesdays on a rotating basis: there is no closing day shared by the whole market. 5 minutes’ walk from Kanazawa Station.
