It is the same crossing as in the Slam Dunk opening sequence, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Japan.
ℹ️ The crowds of tourists are constant, up to 200 people at a time, and the municipality advises against lingering on the tracks: there is now a designated area for taking photos, and stepping into the road to take them is prohibited. Since December 2024 the crossing has been monitored by a camera 24 hours a day, with signs in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. The toilets at Kamakurakōkōmae Station, closed in April 2025 because of vandalism, reopened at the end of August 2025, only from 10:00 to 18:00 and with guards outside. The Kamakura tourist information centre went from 71,133 foreign visitors in 2023 to 100,830 in 2024, +42% in one year.
