The fish market here closed in 2007; in 2010 it reopened on the same quay.
The old Bandaijima fish market moved to the outskirts in May 2007, leaving the quay empty; in October 2010 Pia Bandai opened there, a convivial market with fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers and restaurants (including conveyor-belt sushi) overlooking the Shinano River. Since 2019, with the arrival of the first cruise ship, the Diamond Princess, at the port of Niigata, the market has added smartphone payments and multilingual materials for foreign visitors.
Covered market on the Bandaijima riverside, in Niigata city, with local seafood and farm produce and several restaurants.
ℹ️ General hours 9:00–21:00, but each shop has its own hours; if you are going for a specific dish, check the market's website or social media before you set off.
