It has two national Important Cultural Properties (the hall of Chōfuku-ji and the merchant residence of the Kusano family), as well as fire-resistant igura-zukuri storehouses, façades in genuine wood, Western-style buildings from the Meiji period and three-storey houses from the early Shōwa period. Selected as a national preservation district on 10 December 2004, covering about 10.7 hectares.
