Its 1910 pagoda is the only wooden five-storey pagoda in the whole of Kanagawa.
It is three minutes from Enoshima Station, on the road between the Enoden and the bridge to the island, and hardly anyone goes in. Inside there is a five-storey pagoda built entirely of wood, the only one left in the whole prefecture: it took twelve years to build and was finished in 1910. The ground it stands on was the Tatsunokuchi execution ground.
The temple stands on the spot where, in 1271, the monk Nichiren escaped execution. The five-storey pagoda, completed in 1910 after twelve years of work, has been a cultural property of the municipality of Fujisawa since 2021. Every year between 11 and 13 September the episode is commemorated, with its high point on the 12th and the handing out of botamochi.
ℹ️ Free entry, open 9:00–16:00 all year round; seals are given from 9:30 to 16:00. Three minutes on foot from Enoshima Station on the Enoden Line.
